Meet the Doctors
Who is an Endodontist?
Endodontists are Dentists who specialize in performing Root Canal Treatments of the tooth pulp. To become specialists, they complete an additional two to three years of advanced education after finishing dental school. Endodontists perform routine root canal procedures, complex cases such as retreatments, and surgeries.
Shahrzad Sarram, DDS, MSD
I graduated from the University of Washington Dental School in 1992. After graduation, I completed a year of General Practice Residency at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago before returning to the University of Washington for my specialty training in Endodontics.
In 1995, after completion of my specialty and master degree, I was offered a faculty position at the UW Department of Endodontics, where I taught at the graduate and undergraduate level, while maintaining a joint private practice in Seattle for the next five years. I temporarily relocated to Boston, where I joined a prestigious Endodontic group practice, and taught at Harvard University’s School of Dental Medicine.
Not able to stay away from the Pacific Northwest for too long, I returned to Seattle in 2003 and resumed my teaching position at the UW Endodontic Department. In 2005, I established my own private practice, Northgate Endodontics. I continue to be a part-time associate professor in the Endodontic department at the University of Washington Dental School. Outside of the office, I enjoy the outdoors of the Pacific Northwest, traveling, skiing, spending time with my family, and raising my daughter.
I am a member of the American Dental Association, Seattle King County Dental Association, The Washington State Association of Endodontists, and a board-eligible member of The American Association of Endodontics. I am also a member of the prestigious Spear Study club. My professional peers have voted me top Endodontist in Seattle every year since 2010.
Natasha Flake, DMD, MS, PhD
I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery at the University of Maryland in 2005, with a Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Maryland Graduate School. I earned a Master of Science in Dentistry and Certificate in Endodontics from the University of Washington Graduate Endodontics Program in June 2007.
I joined the faculty at the University of Washington School of Dentistry upon graduation. Currently, I serve as the director of the undergraduate Endodontic program at the University of Washington. Since graduation, I have been working at Northgate Endodontics on a part-time basis. Teaching and research are my passions, yet I enjoy seeing patients and addressing their endodontic needs. Furthermore, teaching helps me keep current with my profession and implement the latest research and findings in treating patients.
In my free time, I’m raising two young energetic children and I enjoy spending time with my family. We’re getting to know the Northwest and enjoy taking trips together around the area.
I am a member of The American Dental Association, The Washington State Association of Endodontists, The American Pain Society, The International Association of Dental Research, The Society for Neuroscience, and a board-certified member of The American Association of Endodontics.
